As a counselor, I spend a lot of time talking about the things people usually do not talk about. Anxiety, grief, trauma, marriage problems, family dynamics, shame, anger, loneliness, and the thoughts we sometimes do not even want to admit we have.

Mental health affects so much more than how we feel. It shows up in our relationships, our decisions, how we see ourselves, how we handle stress, and how we respond when life does not go the way we expected.

I especially enjoy helping people understand why they do what they do. There is usually more behind our reactions, habits, and relationship patterns than we realize. Understanding that does not excuse unhealthy behavior, but it can give us a much better place to start changing it.

My faith is naturally part of how I approach these conversations. I believe we can take mental health seriously, use what we have learned through counseling and research, and still keep our understanding of people firmly rooted in Scripture. Those things do not have to compete with each other.

Faith is not just something I talk about because I am a Christian speaker. It is the foundation of how I understand life, people, relationships, and the work I do.

I also know that faith can get complicated. People have questions. They get hurt. They wrestle with things they were taught, things they have experienced, and things they do not understand. I am not afraid of those conversations. I do not believe honest questions threaten God, and I do not think we have to pretend everything is fine in order to have strong faith.

When I speak about faith, I want to talk about what it looks like when we actually have to live it. In our marriages. In our families. When we are hurting. When we are angry. When we are waiting. When we have no idea what God is doing.

I love Scripture, but I am not interested in using it as a collection of nice sayings. I want to understand what it says, what it means, and what it looks like when we actually live it.

As a licensed naturopathic doctor, I have spent years studying the human body, disease, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. One of the things I appreciate most about naturopathic medicine is that we do not just ask, “How do we make this symptom go away?” We also ask, “Why is this happening?”

The body is complicated. Sleep, stress, nutrition, hormones, medications, deficiencies, lifestyle, genetics, and underlying health conditions can all play a role in how someone feels. Sometimes there is an obvious answer. Sometimes there are several things going on at once.

I enjoy taking all of that complicated medical information and making it understandable. I want people to know how their bodies work, why they may be feeling the way they do, what options they have, and when something needs further medical attention.

I am not interested in selling miracle cures or pretending “natural” automatically means better. I am interested in good medicine, informed patients, and helping people take better care of the bodies God gave them.
