A Word of Encouragement
Writing has always seemed to come naturally to me. I could write an A+ paper without much effort, but for the longest time I couldn't tell you why it was an A+ paper. Ask me to identify a noun or another part of speech, and I was completely stumped. Honestly, I still probably couldn't name them all. Fortunately for me, I don't really have to anymore! If it weren't for spellcheck and Grammarly, my books would probably be a disaster.

The reason I share that is because I'm just an ordinary girl with a handful of degrees who didn't learn to read until second grade. If I can become an author, anyone can. If you have a story to tell, write it. Don't wait until you feel ready or qualified. Start today.

I believe in you. More importantly, God believes in you.

My Story
I was a stay-at-home mom who tried just about everything to earn an income. Cameo, House of Lloyd, Tupperware, Pampered Chef, weight loss coaching...the list goes on. What I discovered is that I'm a terrible salesperson, and those products were too expensive for most of the people I knew anyway.

The truth is, I wasn't just searching for a way to make money. I was searching for purpose. I was trying to find me.

I married at 18, had my son at 19, and, well...frankly, life went downhill from there. Except for my son, he is the highlight of my life.

My one constant has been Jesus. Well...mostly. I did backslide for a while, but God never gave up on me.

Through every marriage struggle, every parenting challenge, and every trial, I slowly drew closer to Christ. Looking back, it feels like He was removing one brick at a time from my stony heart. My heart was hurting, fragile, and scarred. I trusted no one, including God. Being vulnerable, even with Christ, felt uncomfortable, especially while my husband repeatedly trampled over my already broken heart with his unfaithfulness. For decades, I didn't think I deserved any better.

While all of that was happening emotionally, my body was struggling too.

As a child, I dealt with back pain, eczema, and a handful of other annoying health issues. Then, at 22 years old, I had a TIA. The next decade became an endless cycle of chronic health problems. Medical doctors couldn't give me the answers I was looking for, so I started researching my symptoms myself. Eventually, I found a doctor willing to run the tests I had been asking for. At 35 I discovered I was gluten intolerant. Removing gluten from my diet literally changed my life. My physical symptoms improved by approximately 70%.

Then one ordinary day, while standing in line at Starbucks complaining to a friend about my remaining health concerns, a chance conversation with a stranger introduced me to naturopathic medicine. That unexpected encounter changed the course of my life and began an educational journey that lasted fifteen years and resulted in four degrees.

Toward the end of that journey, I finally found the courage to stand up for myself. After 29 years of marriage I filed for divorce. In God's perfect timing, as my divorce was being finalized, I also began my master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I soaked up everything I was learning and found much-needed healing mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

One of the tools God used in that healing was journaling. Somewhere along the way, those journal entries became a manuscript. That manuscript eventually became Soul Wounds - my first book.

That brings me to where I am today. I have the privilege of helping people through naturopathic medicine, mental health counseling, ministry, and my books.

The only thing that would make life better is if my student loans were paid off. Until then, I'll just keep writing books!

I believe God's people were created to thrive, not just survive, but I also know that life, and sin, put plenty of roadblocks in our path. Thankfully, God has allowed me to help others on their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual journeys. It took me far too long to ask for help. I don't regret those years because God redeems every part of our story, but I do hope to use both my experiences and the education He has allowed me to receive to help others find physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness.

Whether we've met in a patient appointment, a counseling session, at a book signing, during a speaking event, or simply through the pages of one of my books, I want you to know how thankful I am that our paths crossed.

Every appointment, counseling session, speaking opportunity, and book event is precious to me. Every marriage, every family, and every individual I have the privilege of serving receives my very best because you are why I do what I do.

You are in my prayers, and I am thankful for every. single. one. of you.

God Bless,
Crystal
